Side-yard water piped out to the street

2020

Completed

The side yard held water after every heavy rain. A French drain took it out to the street, and the strip beside the house was cleared and replanted from scratch.
What the site was doing

The side yard had gone wild: dense trees and vines, a loose rock path, and water with nowhere to go. Landscape drainage problems are common in Sarasota and surrounding areas thanks to the heavy rainfalls and clay soils, and if excess water does not drain properly it will damage a lawn.

What we did

A French drain was installed to carry the pooling water off the side of the property and out into the street. With the water dealt with, the strip was cleared and replanted: areca palms for height along the wall, croton and bromeliad through the middle, red pentas at the front, and a white coral rock border to hold the bed edge.

How it stands now

The walk beside the house is dry and planted the full length, under the existing oaks and their Spanish moss.

From the customer
“Craig did a complete landscaping for me. He is a genius in what to plant and did a French drain on my side taking pooling water to drain into the street. He is competent and honest.”
